Virgin Voyages Is Changing: Here’s What You Need to Know

Published On: September 25, 2025Categories: Cruises

Virgin Voyages is changing! If you joined us on our recent live, you know we had a bit of a town hall moment. The questions were flying, the comments were rolling, and honestly, we were sweating right along with you. So let’s break it all down here in one place, because Virgin Voyages is making some big changes starting October 7th, 2025, and we want you to feel completely in the loop.

Voyage Fair Choices: Base, Essential, and Premium

Virgin is introducing something brand new called Voyage Fair Choices. Instead of one standard fare, you’ll now have three options when booking:

  • Base

    • Lowest rate, but the most restrictions.

    • Basic Wi-Fi (just messaging/social/browsing, one device).

    • Your cabin is assigned by Virgin and may be changed by them up to 7 days before sailing.

    • Dining opens 15 days out

    • No changes to itinerary or lead sailor name.

    • Non-refundable.

  • Essential

    • This is basically what you’re used to right now!

    • Classic Wi-Fi (faster, better than base).

    • Dining opens 45 days out.

    • You can change your itinerary and cabin as usual.

    • Important change: Lead sailor name cannot be changed. So whoever books first must sail.

    • Same cancellation policy as today.

  • Premium

    • Dining opens 60 days out (extra time to snag your favorites!)

    • Premium Wi-Fi for two devices.

    • Name changes allowed.

    • $15 bar tab per sailor, per day.

    • Priority service line if you ever need to call in.

The difference in pricing between Base and Essential is expected to be small (around 5%). So trust us, you’re going to want Essential at minimum. Premium adds nice perks, especially if you’re someone who values flexibility and early dining.

Gratuities

This was the jaw-dropper on the live. Starting October 7th, gratuities will no longer be automatically included in your fare. Instead, you’ll see them as a line item:

  • $20 per sailor, per day if prepaid

  • $22 per sailor, per day if purchased onboard

They’re non-refundable once paid, but if you cancel your sailing, you’ll get them back.

Before you panic, let me stress this: nothing is changing onboard. You will not be asked for tips, there won’t be automatic charges on drinks, and the no-tipping culture stays intact. This is really just a pricing transparency change.

At Fabulous Adventures Travel, we’re still going to include gratuities in your quote unless you tell us otherwise. So you won’t have to worry about forgetting to add them in!

RockStar & Mega RockStar Updates

Good news for our RockStars! Dining reservations will now open 120 days out for all RockStars and Mega RockStars. Everything else remains the same—your name change flexibility, Work From Sea Wi-Fi, and cancellation policy.

Wi-Fi at Sea: Virgin Voyages is Changing

Virgin is now offering different Wi-Fi tiers depending on which fare you book. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Basic Wi-Fi (included with Base fare & Lock It In)

    • 1 device per sailor

    • Messaging, social media, and basic browsing

    • Best for: quick check-ins, messaging, and light social use

  • Classic Wi-Fi (included with Essential fare & RockStar Quarters)

    • 1 device per sailor

    • Messaging, social media, email, browsing, Wi-Fi audio calling

    • Up to 2× faster than Basic

    • Best for: email, social media, and browsing (but no streaming or video calls)

  • Premium Wi-Fi (included with Premium fare)

    • 2 devices per sailor included (additional available for purchase)

    • Messaging, social media, email, browsing, audio & video calls, entertainment streaming

    • Up to 5× faster than Basic

    • Best for: streaming, video calls, and staying fully connected onboard

  • Work From Sea Wi-Fi (included with Mega RockStar Quarters)

    • 2 devices per sailor included

    • Messaging, social media, email, browsing, streaming, VPN, and meeting platforms

    • Fastest internet onboard — ideal for virtual meetings and remote work

💡 Tip: Pre-purchasing Wi-Fi before you sail often saves you money compared to buying onboard.

Timing – What You Need to Do Because Virgin Voyages is Changing

  • All of this goes into effect October 7, 2025.

  • If you book before October 6, you’re grandfathered into the current system (with all inclusions plus a new bonus of 60-day dining!)
