What Cabin Is Right for You on Virgin Voyages?
So you’re thinking about booking a Virgin Voyages cruise, or maybe you’ve already booked and now you’re wondering… what cabin is right for you?
I’m Samantha, and I run Fabulous Adventures Travel Company. If we haven’t met yet, hi and welcome. I’ve been on Virgin more times than I can count, and I’ve stayed in just about every cabin they offer. So I’m here to walk you through all the options and give you the real deal on what to expect!
Sea Terrace
Let’s start with what I sell the most. The Sea Terrace. It’s the one with the hammock. Everyone wants the hammock. You need the hammock. You haven’t even been on Virgin unless you have that legs-in-the-hammock photo. You know the one. You see it all over social.
I’ve had some amazing naps in that hammock. I’ve also had a couple nights where I maybe had a little too much to drink, climbed into that hammock while the ship was moving, and instantly regretted my life choices. But most of the time it’s perfect. Relaxing. Worth every penny.
That’s why Sea Terrace is the go-to for most people. But let’s break down all the cabin types so you know exactly what you’re looking at.
Insider Cabins
The Insider is usually the most affordable. But a lot of the time our deals make the Sea Terrace just a little more, and once people realize that, they upgrade fast.
There are three types of Insider cabins:
- Social Insider is great for friends. Think bachelorette parties or group trips. Beds are separated or stacked like bunks. Definitely not made for couples.
- Insider has a full bed that can split into an L shape. Fits up to three. It’s a tight fit but it works.
- Solo Insider is exactly what it sounds like. One bed, up against the wall, cozy layout, and still has everything you need. Same bathroom as every other cabin. I love that Virgin gives solo sailors a dedicated space.
Right now Insider cabins do not come with a bar tab. That might change later but at the moment that is how it works.
Sea View and Solo Sea View
Sea View means a window. That’s it. There is no balcony. Just a window that lets you look out at the ocean.
These are on Deck 5 along with Social Insiders. You’re down low. Still nice but know what you’re booking.
There is also a Solo Sea View. One of my agents stayed in a really cool one all the way in the front. Corner room. Great layout. But if you get motion sickness you will feel it in that location. Just be aware.
Sea Terrace Breakdown
There are a few versions of Sea Terrace:
- Limited View Sea Terrace has lifeboats partially blocking your view. You can see over or around them but not down. These are on Deck 8 toward the front and back of the ship.
- Regular Sea Terrace is the standard and runs from about Deck 9 to 14. Clear ocean view. Simple and beautiful.
- Central Sea Terrace is the same as the regular one but located midship. Everyone wants midship so this one always goes fast.
- XL Sea Terrace has a larger bathroom. Not a larger room. The sink and shower are bigger but here’s the thing. Some of these do not have a hammock. Instead you get a small egg chair. Some also have a solid metal balcony so you can’t see through it. I always explain this to clients before booking one. If you want that clear glass balcony and the hammock you need to avoid the cabins that are too far forward.
One more thing. There are no Solo Sea Terraces at this time. If you want one you will need to pay double occupancy. You do save a little because you are not paying the second person’s taxes and fees but you are still paying for two.
Rockstar and Mega Rockstar Suites
Now we’re getting to my favorite category. Rockstar suites.
There are two types:
- Regular Rockstar
- Mega Rockstar
Mega Rockstar Includes:
- Access to Richard’s Rooftop
- Daily bar tab
- Bottomless in-room bar
- Thermal spa access
- Early booking for dining and excursions
- Rockstar agent who is your roadie
- Free parking or complimentary airport transfer within range
- Premium wifi
Your roadie is your cruise bestie. They’re like a fun butler who shows up out of nowhere to get you what you need. I have met some of the coolest people this way.
All Mega Rockstar suites are on Deck 15. Yes you feel more motion up there but if my husband can survive it, you’ll be fine. And trust me, he notices every little move that ship makes.
Deck 15 gets on the ship first. You skip all the waiting. They grab you from the Rockstar lounge and walk you straight to your room. Champagne is waiting. It is a whole moment.
Mega Rockstar Suite Options:
- Gorgeous Suite is my favorite. Just the right size. Big bathroom. Huge terrace. Shower outside. Love it.
- Posh Suite is a little bigger but has the same perks.
- Fab Suite is the one we used for Girls Gone Cruisin. We had 60 women in there for a party and it handled it like a champ. Two bathrooms. Massive layout.
- Massive Suite is the biggest one. It has a telescope and stairs built into the party table because apparently Richard Branson likes to dance on tables. Same. You also get a private hot tub. I’ll be staying here during our next Girls Cruise and I’m already counting down.
Regular Rockstar Suites
Still fabulous. Here’s what you get:
- Access to Richard’s Rooftop
- In-room bar but it is not replenished
- Early booking perks
- Rockstar agent but not a roadie
- Wifi included
Regular Rockstar Options:
- Seriously Suite is the entry-level Rockstar room. It’s on Deck 12 midship which is rare. If you want a suite and care about location this is the one.
- Cheeky Corner Suite has a huge terrace that wraps around the corner of the ship. Hammock is off to the side. One version connects to a Sea Terrace which is great if you are traveling with older kids or friends.
- Sweet Aft Suite is located right in the middle back of the ship. The room is small but the terrace is massive.
- Brilliant Suite is kind of a smaller version of the Gorgeous Suite. It is right under the pool though so you may hear chairs scraping early in the morning. I’ll be trying this one soon and will report back.
If you made it all the way through this, you now know more about Virgin cabins than most people ever will. And if you are still feeling stuck, I would love to help you figure out which one is right for you!
