Virgin Voyages Food: Why It’s the Best Dining Experience at Sea
If there’s one thing I hear over and over from my clients after their first sailing, it’s this:
“The food was even better than everyone said it would be.”
And honestly? I agree. After 50+ sailings this is something I cannot deny!
When people ask me what makes Virgin Voyages different from other cruise lines, Virgin Voyages food is always at the top of my list. After dozens of sailings, I still get excited about dinner reservations, late-night pizza runs, and discovering new favorite dishes.

No Main Dining Room. No Buffet. Just Restaurants.
One of the biggest differences is that Virgin Voyages replaced the traditional cruise dining room with a collection of unique restaurants. Instead of eating from the same menu every night, you can choose from Italian, elevated Mexican, Korean BBQ, steakhouse favorites, and even the experimental Test Kitchen.
The goal was simple: make dining feel like going out to great restaurants on land instead of eating in a cruise ship dining hall.
And it works.

My Favorite Virgin Voyages Restaurants
My current favorite is The Wake, Virgin’s steak and seafood restaurant. The filet is consistently incredible, the corn custard is a must-order appetizer, and the lemon cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts at sea.
I also love:
- Pink Agave for elevated Mexican cuisine
- Extra Virgin for fresh pasta and Italian specialties
- Razzle Dazzle for creative dishes that appeal to both meat lovers and plant-based travelers
- Gunbae for a fun, social Korean BBQ experience
- Test Kitchen for adventurous foodies who love trying something completely different

Freshly Made Food Everywhere
Another reason Virgin Voyages food stands out is the focus on freshness. Menus were developed with input from Michelin-starred chefs, and dishes are prepared to order rather than mass-produced.
Even casual dining feels elevated.
The Galley, Virgin’s food hall concept, offers everything from tacos and burgers to sushi, salads, ramen, breakfast favorites, and desserts. It gives you plenty of variety without feeling like a traditional buffet.

Don’t Skip the Casual Food
Some of my favorite bites aren’t even in the restaurants.
The Dock serves incredible Mediterranean-inspired snacks, including my beloved beet hummus. The Pizza Place serves what I consider some of the best pizza at sea, and the Social Club is perfect when you’re craving wings, popcorn, pretzels, or sweet treats.
And yes, you’ll absolutely find me grabbing a late-night pizza after a night out onboard.
Final Thoughts on Virgin Voyages Food
If you’re a foodie, you’re going to love Virgin Voyages.
If you’re not a foodie, you’re probably still going to love Virgin Voyages.
The variety, quality, creativity, and overall dining experience are unlike anything I’ve experienced on a mainstream cruise line. Whether you’re enjoying a perfectly cooked filet at The Wake, fresh pasta at Extra Virgin, or a quick snack from The Dock, you’ll quickly understand why so many sailors rave about Virgin Voyages food.
For me, it’s one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back.
